The following is a brief summary of the environmental monitoring activities that were completed on January 04, 1999. Construction Highlights

01/04/98 (Monday)

Segment 4, Night (Glendale to Lynwood), Report for the shift from 1/2/97 to 1/3/97: Light rainfall occurred on and off during the shift, coming down quite heavy by 3:30 AM; the rain had little effect on construction activities, however all work was finished and equipment off the streets by 4:30 AM. Among construction activities performed tonight, 3 pipe joints (~250 feet) were lowered-in at the Temple St. intersection, EMP 99.65; between Commercial & Temple Sts., welding, NDT (X-rays), wrapping, fiber optic conduit laying, backfilling and compaction (with tests) occurred, ~1200 feet (with gaps), EMP 99.41 to 99.63; pot holing occurred at the intersection of E. 3rd & Alameda Sts., ~25 feet, EMP 100.00; several "bell holes" were excavated and shored between E. 3rd St. and Traction Ave., EMP 99.95; the storm drain inlet opposite Ducommun St. was covered with silt screening and sandbags to prevent erosion runoff from backfilling and compaction.
