CPUC Environmental Monitoring Activities

SFPP Carson to Norwalk Project

The following is a brief summary of the environmental monitoring activities that were completed between 1:00 on 5/14/99 and 1:00 on 5/15/99. This summary is based on reports directly received from the field and has not been edited. If you have any questions please contact (818) 597-3407. This report is intended to serve as a communication document and as an instrument for quality control.


Construction Highlights

Spread 1

City of Long Beach

Spread 1 work in the City of Long Beach has been completed.

City of Paramount

No Spread 1 work occurred in the City of Paramount during the shift.

City of Bellflower

The electrical crew continued to set the conduit from the valve on the west side of the San Gabriel River.

City of Cerritos

No work occurred on the east side of the San Gabriel River except for the repacking of the valve.

City of Artesia

No work occurred in the City of Artesia during the shift.

City of Norwalk

No work occurred in the City of Norwalk during the shift.

Spread 2

Los Angeles County

The backfilling crew worked on the north side of Compton Creek during the shift. The crew poured the concrete sidewalk and river bank and repaired sections of the curb that were damaged during construction. A small crew replaced the fencing on the bank of Compton Creek and attached the pedestrian barrier on the suspended pipe.

City of Long Beach

The trench has been backfilled to grade at DeForest Park with the exception of the valve site. No other work occurred in the Park.

City of Paramount

No work occurred in the City of Paramount during the shift.

Watson Station

City of Carson

The crew at the Watson Station is not scheduled to work on Fridays. A small crew monitored the valve and hydrostatic testing graph and gauges at the west end of the line. The pressure held at 1400 psi and the line was pressurized to the test pressure of 1820 psi. The line held the full test pressure with no drops for the duration of the eight-hour hydrostatic test.

Norwalk Station

City of Norwalk

The crew at the Norwalk Station started bringing the line up to pressure for the hydrostatic test. The line pressurized to 1400 psi when problems with the valves were noticed. The applicant stopped the test and the eight valves were inspected. The valve housings were repacked and the hydrostatic test resumed at 3:00 PM.

Colton Station

City of Colton

The electrical crews worked at the valves and junction boxes at the Colton Station. No other construction crews worked at the station during the shift.
