CPUC Environmental Monitoring Activities

SFPP Carson to Norwalk Project

The following is a brief summary of the environmental monitoring activities that were completed between 1:00 on 5/20/99 and 1:00 on 5/21/99. This summary is based on reports directly received from the field and has not been edited. If you have any questions please contact (818) 597-3407. This report is intended to serve as a communication document and as an instrument for quality control.


Construction Highlights

Spread 1

City of Long Beach

Spread 1 work in the City of Long Beach has been completed.

City of Paramount

No Spread 1 work occurred in the City of Paramount during the shift.

City of Bellflower

No work occurred on the west side of the San Gabriel River.

City of Cerritos

No work occurred in the City of Cerritos during the shift.

City of Artesia

No work occurred in the City of Artesia during the shift.

City of Norwalk

No work occurred in the City of Norwalk during the shift.

Spread 2

Los Angeles County

A small crew worked at Compton Creek to clean-up the right-of-way and pack the valves on both sides of the creek. The crew painted the valves with yellow paint above grade.

City of Long Beach

The electrical crew continued to work on the power connections on the west side of the Los Angeles River during the shift.

City of Paramount

The final paving crew continued work on Madison Street in the City of Paramount during the shift. A small crew started on the concrete work on Minnesota Avenue.

Watson Station

City of Carson

The crew at the Watson Station continued working on the electrical connections and welding on small diameter lines. A trench box was brought in to provide an enclosure for catching the cleaning pigs. The contractor sprayed water over the area to minimize fugitive dust. The contractor ran brush pigs, carbide pigs and swabs during the shift. The swabs were still dirty at the end of the shift.

Norwalk Station

City of Norwalk

The crew at the Norwalk Station launched the cleaning pigs through the 16-inch line to the Watson Station and maintained the pressure on the three compressors.

Industry Station

City of Industry

A small crew in the Industry Station worked on the hand excavation for the connections to the proposed motors and valves. The crew has excavated much of the trench from the valves to the proposed motor sites without any damage to the burried conduits.
