CPUC Offers Veterans Information on Helpful Programs

The CPUC was a participant in the Welcome Home Veterans Event and Resource Fair in San Jose, sponsored by Councilmember Kansen Chu (District 4) in cooperation with Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese (Third District), Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Santa Clara Valley, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, and Berryessa Citizens Advisory Council.

Those who visited the CPUC’s table received information on California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE), Energy Savings Assistance Program, Family Electric Rate Assistance, and Medical Baseline.  The CPUC also provided information on communications programs including the state and federal LifeLine programs, California Relay Service, and California Telephone Access Program (CTAP).

In addition, residents picked up fact sheets in English, Spanish, and Chinese on phone and energy scams, preparedness tips in the event of a power outage, power line safety, understanding water bills, tips for renting a limousine, how to contact the CPUC, and energy and water conservation tips.

CPUC Reaches Out to Families at Lennox Park Festival

The CPUC provide educational resources at the 18th Annual Lennox Family Festival in Southern California, directly underneath the eastern edge of LAX’s flight path.

The event was designed to provide educational resources and representatives from social, financial, governmental, and medical agencies attended.  The area is approximately 90 percent Spanish-speaking, and as such, the CPUC provided a wide variety of information in both Spanish and English.

The main interests of the more than 1,000 attendees were consumer programs, CTAP applications, choosing cell phones, and water conservation.

CPUC To Host Discussion on Energy Data and Analysis

The CPUC will hold its next Thought Leaders Speaker Series in Sacramento and address the ways energy data and analysis can be used to implement California’s energy goals. The discussion will cover how energy consumption data is currently used and the privacy policies that protect consumers.

When: July 23, 2013, 9:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m.

Where: California Environmental Protection Agency, Byron Sher Auditorium 1001 I St., Sacramento. The event will be available via live webcast.

This Thought Leaders event, co-sponsored by the California Energy Commission and San Diego Gas & Electric/Southern California Gas Company, will include a discussion of how energy consumption data is currently used; what value it brings to policymakers to support the myriad of statewide energy goals; how customers are ultimately benefitting from utilization of data by researchers, market participants, and utilities, from energy efficiency, distributed generation, grid reliability, to lower bills; and, how the privacy of customers is maintained.

There will be a moderated question and answer session. In order to facilitate the session, please send your questions in advance via email.

The CPUC hosts the Thought Leaders Speaker Series to stimulate thought and discussion of some of the most pressing challenges facing California utility regulators and the private sector industries impacted by state policies. Leading experts from around the world take center stage to offer their expertise and vision in areas such as communications, energy, water, transportation, the environment, green jobs, and more.

Although a quorum of Commissioners may be in attendance, no CPUC action will be taken at this event.
