Utility Enforcement

The CPUC investigates alleged violations of the Public Utilities Code, CPUC regulations, and other California statutes involving stationary utilities, including telephone (including wireless), electric, gas, and water companies.  These investigations generally involve consumer fraud and marketing abuses, and issues of public safety.

On this page, you can see a list of ongoing or recently resolved utility enforcement cases.  Choose a case from the links to the right, or browse our full list.

The CPUC vigorously enforces state and federal regulations and since 1999 has levied approximately $500 million in fines and restitution across the utilities it regulates. See our spreadsheet of enforcement actions.

Transportation Licensing and Enforcement

The CPUC also administers safety oversight and enforcement of moving companies and passenger carriers (limousines, shuttles, etc.).

The CPUC is currently pursuing various actions against moving companies.

The CPUC also takes enforcement action against unscrupulous passenger carriers.
