Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today offered rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction in a California court of the person or persons responsible for each of the following six unsolved murder cases in California. The following is a brief description of each crime and the reward amount offered: On December 21, 2007, 14-year-old Vernon Eddins was shot and killed in front of Barnard White Middle School in Union City during a gang-related attack. The Governor is offering a reward in the amount of $35,000. It was requested by Union City Police Chief Greg Stewart. On September 29, 2004, 54-year-old Ariet Girgis was murdered in her Westminster home under suspicious circumstances. The Governor is offering a reward in the amount of $50,000. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the following appointments. Celia Ayala, 54, of Whittier, has been appointed to the Early Learning Quality Improvement System Advisory Committee. Since 2007, she has served as the chief operating officer of Los Angeles Universal Preschool. Previously, Ayala served as assistant superintendent for the division of children and family services at the Riverside County Office of Education from 2004 to 2007 and was the director of curriculum, instruction and educational technologies (for K through 12) for the Pasadena Unified School District from 2002 to 2004. She served as the principal at James Madison Elementary School from 1997 to 2002 and worked for the Los Angeles County Office of Education, where she served as director from 1988 to 1997 and senior project manager of migrant education from 1980 …

Tollefson, of Concord: "Maria and I were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Private Benjamin Tollefson, who dedicated his life to protecting the ideals of this country. He was a true patriot and his service to our country will never be forgotten. On behalf of all Californians, we send our thoughts and prayers to Benjamin's family, friends and fellow soldiers as they mourn this loss."
