In February 2007, public meetings were held in Apple Valley, Palm Springs, Carlsbad and El Centro. The public expressed a preference for a geographic split of the 760, with most of the public favoring geographic split alternative 1. This option divides the area code at a line between San Diego County and the remaining part of 760.
In September 2008 a second set of public meetings was held in Victorville and Carlsbad to receive feedback on the Petition for Modification filed by interested parties in Northern San Diego County.
