Melicia (Mel) Charles served as the supervisor of the CPUC’s Customer Generation Programs, which oversees the California Solar Initiative, Self-Generation Incentive Program, and net energy metering policies. Mel began her tenure at the CPUC in 2006, and has developed policies and programs related solar and other distributed generation, storage and energy efficiency. Mel also served as Chief of Staff to Commissioner Timothy Alan Simon. Prior to working at the CPUC, Mel was a Ford Scholar for a joint project between Harvard University and Boston University, where she conducted research on Boston’s Haitian communities. After completing that project, Mel worked as a management consultant focusing on program evaluation and strategic planning. Mel has an MBA from the University of San Francisco and a B.A. from UC Berkeley. Mel enjoys baking, exploring new restaurants, and dancing in her spare time.
