Historical Events and Information

On March 2000, CPUC staff issued a report on the utilization of numbering resources in the 310 area code that ascertained how efficiently telecommunications carriers used numbering resources. For more details, you may view the 310 Area Code Utilization Report online.

On February 2001, CPUC staff issued an audit report on the accuracy and reliability of the data submitted by the telecommunications companies regarding their utilization of numbering resources in the 310 area code. For more details, you may view  the 310 Area Code Audit Report online.

On October 2003, the CPUC decided that an area code split is unnecessary because there existed an adequate supply of telephone numbers in the 310 area code. Instead, the CPUC decided it would closely monitor the supply of telephone numbers in the 310 area code.

On October 2004, two more proposals regarding the implementation of the 310 area code back-up contingency plan were before the Commission whereby the Commission rejected both of them. For more details, you may view the Draft Decision online. Additionally, the Alternate Decision is available online.
