The CPUC has held two Re-DEC workshops, the first in December 2009 and the second in March 2011. The CPUC plans to convene Re-DEC twice a year and is planning a workshop for the fall of 2011. Details for the next workshop will be posted to this webpage when available.
For stakeholders interested in the CPUC’s efforts to reform Rule 21, which is the interconnection tariff that applies to distributed generation interconnecting under the CPUC’s jurisdiction, please see our Rule 21 page.
The CPUC’s Energy Division recently requested interconnection information from the investor-owned utilities. Specifically, the Energy Division requested the available capacity on the utility distribution system and interconnection, process, timeline, and costs of distributed generation.
System-side renewable distributed generation (DG) that is dispersed throughout the grid and interconnected for export to the utility is playing an increasing role in meeting California’s renewable energy goals. Programs targeting system-side renewable DG include the Renewable Auction Mechanism, IOU Solar PV Programs, and the small renewable feed-in-tariff program.
Stakeholders have identified a number of challenges that impact both project developers and grid operators as increasing volumes of renewable DG attempt to interconnect to the grid. As a result, the CPUC’s Energy Division created Re-DEC, a working group that convenes utility grid operators, renewable DG project developers, renewable DG technology experts, and policymakers to better understand the issues and identify solutions.
March 4, 2011

California Public Utilities Commission
505 Van Ness Avenue, Auditorium
(Corner of Van Ness Avenue and McAllister Street)
CPUC staff launched the Renewable Distributed Energy Collaborative (Re-DEC) in December 2009. This second meeting will provide stakeholders an update on staff activities over the past year; will provide an overview of recent interconnection tariff reform; and will solicit stakeholder feedback on a) proposals to improve existing expedited interconnection procedures and b) the IOU interconnection maps.
Please RSVP to confirm your attendance, whether you are participating in person or off-site: https://ia.cpuc.ca.gov/redec1/.
For those not able to attend in person, the CPUC will be providing off-site participation through WebEx. Due to the limited capacity of the phone line, you must RSVP to receive the conference line information. Off-site attendees will be able to listen to the meeting, but will not be able to verbally participate in the discussion.
Please contact Jaclyn Marks at firstname.lastname@example.org or 415-703-2257 with any questions.
