The PUC ensures that railroad-highway grade crossings are designed, constructed, and properly maintained to ensure public safety.
The Rail Crossings Engineering Section (RCES) engineers investigate and evaluate request to construct new or modify existing rail crossings. They also investigate train-related incidents that occur at rail crossings, and complaints regarding rail crossings safety or conditions. RCES engineers are assigned to territories by county and responsible for rail crossing matters in those territories. RCES territory maps and staff contact information are available to help you find answers to your rail crossing questions.
