Interim Local Government Programs and State/Institutional Partnerships

Local government participation in promoting energy efficiency at the regional level is recognized by the CPUC as a major market driver.  Local governments have significant powers that can improve the efficiency of new and existing building via local code compliance regulations.  Local governments have the potential to reduce GHG and energy usage as significant energy end users within their public buildings and facilities (i.e. public schools, wastewater treatment plants, City Hall, etc.).  Lastly, local governments are closer to their constituents and play an important role in influencing citizen/business attitudes about energy use.  For these reasons, the CPUC has directed the Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) to develop partnerships with local governments and support their efforts to promote energy efficiency at the local level.
