Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program
Energy efficiency typically refers to the installation of energy efficient technologies or tools to eliminate energy losses in homes, businesses, or in new construction. An energy efficient home can help you reduce your energy usage while maintaining comparable service, thereby saving money on your utility bill.
On September 22, the CPUC launched the most ambitious energy efficiency and conservation campaign in the history of the utility industry in the U.S. by authorizing energy efficiency plans and $2 billion in funding for 2006-2008 for the state's utilities, reaffirming that cost-effective energy efficiency is the state's first line of defense against power shortages.
Energy savings from improved efficiency helps to support the goals of other CPUC and State of California initiatives. The Governor's Green Building Initiative requires that state buildings reduce their grid energy consumption by 20%. AB 32, signed by the Governor in September 2006, sets emission reduction goals for the state. Energy efficiency can help to reduce emissions.
