Energy Efficiency Decision Approved Sept. 20, 2007

    Energy Efficiency Fast Facts

Since 2001 the California's Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) have incented over 55 Million CFLs to residential customers saving approximately 3,000 gWhs.  This has reduced CO2 emissions by an estimated 1,640,000 tons and has also saved residential customers over $358 million.

Over the past five years, California's IOUs have saved approximately 9,000 gWhs through their energy efficiency programs.  This is equivalent to 6 average size power plants running for 1 year and has reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 4,900,000 Tons.

Since 2001 California IOUs have saved over 460 gWhs as a result of their Refrigerator Recycling Program. This has reduced CO2 emissions by over 250,000 tons and saved our residential customers about $56 Million on their electric bills.

Over the past 15 years, California IOUs have given rebates for over 812,000 refrigerators saving over 200 gWhs as a result of their Refrigerator Replacement Program. This has reduced CO2 emissions by over 111,000 million tons and saved residential customers over $24 Million.

Over the past 5 years California IOUs have saved over 3,600 gWhs in the Residential Sector; 5,300 gWh in the Nonresidential Sector.

    Assumptions:

    • CO2 conversion 1.1 CO2 pounds/kWh
    • Residential customer rate estimated at $0.12/kWh
    • Power plant conversion assumes 300 mW plant at 60% load factor and 8% line losses

On September 20, 2007, the PUC approved an innovative, new regulatory framework for achieving and exceeding the state's energy efficiency goals.  Read more in our press release or the decision.  You can also read Commissioner Grueneich's letter to consumers, issued when the proposal was first released on August 9th.
