The CPUC is involved in numerous transmission initiatives emerging from national and state policy, including the national 2005 Energy Policy Act (EPAct) and the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). The CPUC also participates in west-wide electricity coordination. Among other things, these initiatives are intended to:
- promote non-discriminatory, competition-enhancing access to the transmission system;
- encourage transmission investment;
- make transmission planning both more forward-looking and more coordinated with power supply; and
- address the unique challenges of developing and delivering renewable energy.
