DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Chief Hearing Reporter the Hearing Reporter, PUC, takes verbatim accounts of conferences, hearings, meetings, and workshops of the Public Utilities Commission using Computer Aided Transcription (CAT) to create final transcripts (Pursuant to Public Utilities Code Section 1706); scopes their transcripts; creates “A” pages, indices, covers, and certificate pages for inclusion in final transcripts; frequently travels to various locations throughout the state; frequently works to meet fixed deadlines; performs incidental related clerical work.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have experience in reporting verbatim material related to Public Utilities Commission hearings (e.g., technical terms related to the regulation of energy, telecommunications, water, transportation, etc. industries) including questions and answers colloquy, statements, objections, and rulings on objections using CAT technology; scope CAT notes at a rate consistent with completion of a daily transcript; adapt to changing situations and maintain a calm and even disposition under pressure; follow directions; exercise discretion in handling information from confidential/sensitive cases; display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; participate in a team environment; establish and maintain cooperative relations with others; analyze situations and make sound decisions or draw accurate conclusions; and communicate effectively. In addition to knowledge of CAT equipment and software, the successful candidate must have knowledge of proper grammar and spelling; word knowledge and association; customary hearing procedures; a wide variety of engineering, legal, tax, accounting, economic, and insurance language; and technical and legal terminology used in proceedings.
Experience using Microsoft WORD, EXCEL and OUTLOOK are desirable.
