Duties/Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), incumbent will perform professional accounting work relating to the proper accounting and monitoring of fines, citations and restitutions due to the CPUC. The incumbent verifies receivables are properly recorded in the CALSTARS accounting system and are recorded in accordance with the State Administrative Manual and State Controller’s Office guidelines. Monitors payment plans included in Commission decisions, prepare collection letters for delinquent accounts, contact delinquent companies to determine payment status, notify Consumer Protection and Safety Division and other division personnel on a regular basis regarding delinquent accounts; responds to inquiries from Commission personnel, management and State control agencies. The incumbent will reconcile amounts recorded as fines, citations, and restitutions accounts receivable to Commission decisions, citations, and tracking mechanisms maintained by the industry divisions and to the accounts receivable aging report. The incumbent also prepares monthly collections reports for management and provides assistance to Accounting Officers and Administrator during the year-end closing process.
Experience/Qualifications:
The incumbent must have experience with office procedures, methods and equipment, computer applications and programs, such as CALSTARS, Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to meet deadlines, work independently as well as in a team environment, maintain a courteous & professional demeanor at all times; flexible and able to work in a fast-paced office environment; direct knowledge & experience with State accounting principles, methods and procedures; knowledge & experience of the principles and practices of governmental accounting and financial record keeping. The incumbent must also have excellent oral, written and analytical skills.
