Salary:

Senior Legal Typist, Range A $ 2589 - 3242

Senior Legal Typist, Range B $ 2894 - 3621 

 

For Senior Legal Typist positions in San Francisco, candidates qualify for a “hire above minimum” (HAM) with a starting salary of either $3242 or $3621 per month, depending upon the range.  Candidates are also eligible for salary adjustments for recruitment and retention not to exceed $3992.15 per month.

Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Under the supervision of the President and her Chief of Staff, the incumbent will work in a confidential capacity providing support to the President, his Advisors, and serves as back-up to the Administrative Assistant. The incumbent will type, edit and proofread, concurrences, dissents and assigned Commissioner Rulings and prepare memos to attach to proposed decisions and circulate to appropriate staff for review.  The Senior Legal Typist is responsible for tracking draft and alternate decisions, concurrences and dissents written by the Commissioner and ensuring that all legal deadlines are met.  The incumbent may also be responsible for preparation of the agenda binder with agenda, memos, background documents as appropriate, power points and talking points.  Other duties include:

  • Types letters, memos, and resolutions.
  • Prepares correspondence.
  • Routes and tracks correspondence received in the President’s Office, including e-mail received on the President’s website.
  • Performs web searches and other basic research to retrieve information and documents.
  • Makes travel arrangements for Advisors.
  • Prepares in-state and out-of-state travel claims for the Advisors.
  • Maintains Agenda files for Advisors.
  • Tracks public dissemination of proposed decisions for Advisors.
  • Obtains documents for Advisors from formal file room or other sources, as required.  Maintains case files for President/Advisors.
  • Schedules appointments between the Advisors and others, including non-PUC parties.
  • Screens incoming calls and visitors and refers them to appropriate staff to handle.
  • Distributes incoming mail.
  • Processes and maintains formal filings, and miscellaneous files.
  • Orders and maintains office supplies.
  • Serves as back-up to the Administrative Assistant in his/her absence.
  • May serve as the office timekeeper.

Applicants must possess a valid typing certificate of no less than 45 words per minute at the time of the hiring interview. 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

 

Applicant must be able to communicate effectively, work with a minimum of supervision, be flexible, be able to organize and prioritize assignments, work under pressure, execute sound judgment, and exercise a high degree of confidentiality, independence and initiative in performing a variety of tasks.  In addition, applicant must display discretion, tact, poise and be diplomatic in dealing with a wide variety of people as well as a wide range of inquiries, in a fast-paced environment.  Strong computer skills are necessary including proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel.  WebPublishing and PowerPoint knowledge are also desirable. 

 

TYPING TEST REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATION AND LOCATION:

 

Certification requires successful completion of a five minute timed test and a speed of 45 W.P.M.  The typing certificate is valid for four years.

  • Business Schools or Colleges
  • Adult Education Centers
  • Skills and Business Education Centers

Internet Typing Certificates, Typing Certificates from Employment Agencies and typing Certificates issued for less than a five-minute typing test are not acceptable.
