2016 Residential Electric Usage and Bill Data Statistics by Climate Zone

This page contains data statistics to help residential customers better understand their electric bills. Visual representations of usage and bill data are available for download by utility and climate zone. Each climate zone includes regions of California with similar temperature patterns. Any residential customer taking electric service from Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), Southern California Edison (SCE), or San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) can compare usage and bills against the median and average within the customer's climate zone. The data also allows any customer to see the relative usage and bills across different climate zones.

These data statistics are calculated based on a random sample of customers within each climate zone. Data statistics are separately reported for income-qualified customers participating in the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program.

1. Are you using more electricity than average within your climate zone?

2. Is your bill higher than the median or average bill within your climate zone?

3. How is your usage or bill different from customers living in a different climate zone?

Look up climate zone by zip code.
