Crossing Authorizations

Crossing construction or modification may be authorized by a General Order 88-B authorization letter, Commission Decision, or Commission Resolution.  This page discusses previously issued authorizations.

General Order 88-B Authorizations

GO 88-B authorizations to modify existing rail crossings are issued by CPUC Rail Crossings and Engineering Branch.  For specific authorizations, please refer to the GO 88-B authorization letters.

Formal Applications to Commission

Commission authorizations to construct new rail crossings may be issued in a Commission Decision. 

The Commission's Proceeding Search page can be used to find information about Proceedings since approximately 2001. A proceeding number is assigned following submission of an Application.  For searching this data, use a format without dashes, such as A0512034.

The Commission's Decision Search page can be used to find Decisions since approximately 2001 that are signed by the Commission.  Decisions can include authorization for crossings that are requested as part of a Formal Application.  For searching this data, use a format without dashes, such as D0512034.

Resolutions Signed by the Commission

The Commission's Resolution Search page can be used to find Resolutions that are signed by the Commission.  Rail safety-related Resolutions can typically be identified based on the following:

  • SX: Rail Crossing Safety
  • ST: Rail Transit Safety
  • SR or ROSB: Railroad Safety

Decisions and Resolutions prior to 2000
