Nidhi Thakar, Chief for Strategy and External Affairs for President Picker

Nidhi Thakar is Chief for Strategy and External Affairs for Commissioner Michael Picker, President of the California Public Utilities Commission. Nidhi previously served as Senior Advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy's Loan Programs Office under the Obama Administration, where she was part of the executive team responsible for managing a $32 billion portfolio of loans and loan guarantees and for financing innovative, clean energy and advanced vehicle technologies.  Nidhi also led legal and policy analysis on energy and environmental issues affecting public lands as Deputy Director of the Public Lands Project at the Center for American Progress.  Prior to the Center, Nidhi advised clients for six years on energy and environmental matters as an associate at Perkins Coie LLP, where she practiced before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and state public utility commissions. She also served as a Legislative Aide on Capitol Hill to U.S. Representative Shelley Berkley of Nevada, managing energy, environment, and public lands.  Nidhi was previously a Law Clerk at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice, Environment and Natural Resources Division.

Nidhi holds a J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School, with a Certificate in Environmental Law, where she was a member of the Law Review.  She received a B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park and earned a citation in Public Leadership as a member of the Scholars Program.
