RMWG Meeting #3 - February 9, 2021

Energy Division hosted a Resiliency and Microgrid Working Group (RMWG) meeting on February 9, 2021 from 2-4 pm.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the preliminary RMWG schedule (originally shared on 1/15/2021), and to continue the discussion on the multi-property microgrid tariff topic.  This will include a review of previous meetings, and a discussion of the following document: Multi-Property, Multi-Customer Microgrids Tariff Discussion Prompt and Questions.

Letter to PG&E

In December 2020, CPUC Acting Executive Director Rachel Peterson sent a letter directing PG&E to meet with local Air Districts concerning the deployment of temporary generation during Public Safety Power Shutoff events.  Read the letter here.

Ruling and Proposal for Utility Temporary Generation - September 4, 2020

Assigned Commissioner Genevieve Shiroma and Administrative Law Judge Colin Rizzo issued a ruling requesting comment on utility temporary generation and alternatives to diesel for providing substation level power during transmission outages.

The ruling includes an attached proposal for an interim approach to minimizing emissions from temporary generation for 2021, and a process for transitioning to clean technologies and fuels in future years.

Diesel Alternatives Workshop - August 25, 2020

Energy Division hosted a public workshop with stakeholders examining alternatives to diesel generation for the 2021 fire season and future PSPS events. The workshop focused on replacing substation-level generation used for PG&E's Temporary Generation Program.

Staff Proposal for Implementing SB 1339 and Concept Paper - July 23, 2020

Administrative Law Judge Colin Rizzo issued a ruling requesting comment on staff's proposal for facilitating the commercialization of microgrids pursuant to SB 1339.

Track 1 Decision Issued - June 7, 2020

The commission voted to approved a decision for Track 1 of the proceeding.  The decision adopted short term actions to accelerate microgrids deployment and related resiliency solutions.
