Maria Sotero is an Advisor to Commissioner Guzman Aceves, focusing on energy issues. She previously was the lead analyst for climate change in the Energy Division at the CPUC, where she helped develop and implement CPUC programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Prior to that, she led oversight of energy R&D programs at the CPUC, and has also worked on energy R&D at the California Energy Commission. Before entering the energy policy world, she worked in communications consulting and analyzed economic justice policy at the think tank New America Foundation. 

Ms. Sotero has a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University and a BA in Urban Studies and Planning from UC San Diego.
