CPUC Opens Second Round of Applications for Equity, Engagement, and Education Grants
Over $2 million available for community-based organizations and Tribes to build long-term capacity for sustained engagement with CPUC
SAN FRANCISCO – The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today opened a second application period for its Equity, Engagement, and Education Grants, offering an opportunity for community-based organizations (CBO) and Tribes to apply for one-time funds to create or enhance ongoing engagement with CPUC decision-making. More than $2 million is available for distribution from the Equity, Engagement, and Education Grant account, with grants up to $200,000 per organization.
The Equity, Engagement, and Education Grant program aims to increase participation in CPUC decision-making processes and build the long-term capacity of CBOs and Tribes to make participation in the CPUC’s Intervenor Compensation program and other funding sources more accessible.
Approved projects in this category may include:
- Community engagement and outreach related to CPUC proceedings;
- Hiring the expertise necessary to actively participate in CPUC decision-making;
- Creating education, training, and curriculum programs; or,
- Partnership and coalition development to generate awareness of CPUC programs.
Earlier this year, the CPUC awarded $1.7 million from the Equity, Engagement, and Education Grant Account to support projects in 21 counties in California, including $725,000 specifically for Tribal communities.
This initiative is part of CPUC’s broader Equity and Access Grant Program, which empowers community-based organizations and Tribal communities by providing substantial funding to increase clean energy access and education within underserved and underrepresented communities.
