California Information

Below are maps and data for learning about California's broadband availability, adoption data, providers, grants, eligible funding areas, and more. These interactive tools are a starting point for planning local broadband projects and grant proposals.

  • Last-Mile Federal Funding Account Public Map - Displays unserved areas in California that are eligible for last-mile federal grants administered by the California Public Utilities Commission under the Last-Mile Federal Funding Account grant program. This map and associated downloadable data, including Census Block data and Shapefiles, may be used to plan local projects and funding applications.
  • Statewide Middle-Mile Network Map - Learn about the 10,000 miles of construction that is in progress as part of the California Middle-Mile Broadband Initiative. County-level and statewide network data is shown.

  • California Interactive Broadband Map - View broadband availability and areas eligible for grants from the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF). The CPUC collects and makes publicly available the California Broadband Data displayed on the map.

  • California program served and unserved designations are based on the “Fixed Downstream Consumer Deployment” data (business and mobile deployment are also collected).

Other Data Resources

  • USC Annenberg data visualization tool displaying California fixed broadband data over time.
  • The CPUC publishes a number of dashboards that visualize broadband deployment/availability and adoption data. Broadband data from 2022 (as of end of year 2021) is the most recent data available and dashboards are still being updated with 2021 data.
  • Microsoft Digital Equity Dashboard – Microsoft Tool “intended to empower policymakers to identify regions with digital equity gaps” displays census and other data—generally at the tract or county level of granularity—for indicators such as low rates of broadband adoption and usage, and gaps in broadband affordability.
